What are some good ways to deal with generalized stress?
I already exercise and have a pretty decent diet. I try to stay away from soft drinks and sweets as much as possible. I also exercise regularly. I have a prescription for Xanax and knock back a few when I’m feeling overly stressed.
How do you handle your stress?
Pills such as Xanax are quick and easy ways of dealing with chronic stress. If they work and the anxiety is interfering with your life, I would recommend taking them as needed.
Other ways to manage stress include…
1. Breathing: Your breath is the only action in your body that you can do voluntarily and involuntarily. Thus, it is the best way to affect your involuntary actions (such as increased heart rate and the overall achy feeling). It does seem simple but it works faster than even a Xanax. Breathe through the nose, out the mouth (make a whooshing sound) and make your breathing through the diaphragm instead of the chest. Do it as slow as possible. It has a big impact on mood.
2. Exercise is good. Aerobic is ideal opposed to anaerobic. Keep doing it 3-5 days a week for 20+ minutes.
3. If you procrastinate or feel overloaded, try time management techniques such as making to-do lists and prioritizing
4. Try to find the trigger of the stressful event and avoid/accept it.
5. See a therapist if it gets out of hand. The best therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but there are others that work just as well.
6. Yoga/T’ai Chi/Meditation are eastern approaches. Since you exercise, you don’t need to strain your body more with Yoga and T’ai Chi. Meditation is basically breathing with a sensory focus (like focusing on a certain picture or sound)
7. Sound Therapy helps. Listen to calming music.
8. Eliminate all caffeine. I know you said that you don’t drink soft drinks but also eliminate coffee and dark chocolate.
9. I’ve found that Calcium/Magnesium Supplements to work just as fast and well as Klonopin (a similar drug to Xanax). A B-Vitamin Complex can also work ESPECIALLY after exercise. These don’t interact with medicines and you really can’t overdose on most B vitamins.
10. Find a hobby and occupy your time with that.
I hope this helps! Best of Luck!
What are some ways to effectively combat the effects of Xanax?
Someone I know took too many xanax pills two days ago, and they have been sleeping for a long time. I’m dependent on this person, so are two other children..this has happened once before. Plz, I don’t know what to do, there aren’t many options for a job-less teenager with no transportation. Does coffee help? Any stimulants or things I could try to help this person? [besides calling hospital, etc.] Thanks.
it was about .5mg [times] 40
thats 20mg..thats a lot of xanax for one dose.. that will kill you.. r u sure that person is sleeping? or is this person just keeping themselves drugged up but not taking it all at once.. no one can take 20mg at once..
What criteria should be used to distinguish between the use and abuse of caffeine?
Can these same criteria be applied to other drugs?
The same used for any drug. The problem with substance disorders is not that we don’t understand them, it’s the fact most people have a very flawed understanding of drug use most of the time.
The difference between substance use and abuse is very simple, it is harm. For a person to be diagnosed with substance abuse, a less severe problem, or substance dependence (equivalent to addiction) there must be harm (or at least a high likely hood of significant harm) caused by use.
As for caffeine having a few cups of coffee is not harmful for most people. It may sound hard to believe but most people can use drugs recreational. Although most drugs are not accepted alcohol certainly is and only a small percent of people will develop a problem with alcohol.
Currently on a technical level caffeine abuse, caffeine addiction, or any other similar terms don’t exist. So caffeine addiction is not on the same level as other drugs and the reality is we don’t really see addictive behaviours or complications with caffeine use.
Most people given a substance diagnosis don’t really have any problem, it is highly over diagnosed. Also most people who get into significant drugs problems are using the drugs for self medication (eg doctor shopping to get opioids like oxycodone or morphine and anxiolytics like Valium or Xanax to control anxiety). If a person is an addict there is nothing recreational about there use. That does not mean go out, get drugs, and go crazy.
Some common terms relating to substance use:
Addiction (psychological dependence):
• Primary, chronic, neurobiologic disease influenced by genetic,
psychosocial, and environmental factors.
• Characterized by one or more of the following behaviors:
impaired control over drug use, compulsive use, continued
use despite harm, and craving.
• Intentional transfer of medication from legitimate distribution
and dispensing channels.
• Incorrect use of a medication (for a medical purpose) other
than as directed or as indicated whether harm results or not;
may be willful or unintentional (accidentally taking extra medication).
• Drug seeking and other behavior consistent with addiction
driven by inadequate pharmacotherapy.
• Inappropriate behavior resolves when pain is adequately treated.
• Adaptive state manifested by a withdrawal syndrome caused by:
– Abrupt cessation – Antagonist administration
– Decreasing drug-blood levels – Rapid dose reduction
• Need to increase pain medication (eg, opioids) when
other factors are present (eg, new disease or progression,
increased physical activity, noncompliance, medication
change or interaction, addiction, and/or deviant behavior)
Adaptive state where continued drug exposure results in a need for markedly increased amounts of the substance to achieve the desired effect and/or markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of the substance.
Is it okay to drink coffee while taking a benzo?
Would it be okay to drink 1 cup of coffee while taking my daily xanax?
Sure although the caffeine in the coffee might slightly depress the sedative actions of the Xanax. Also, if you are taking Xanax for panic attacks, coffee can be a trigger (for panic attacks). You might be better off drinking an herbal tea if that is the case.
Is it safe to mix monster and red bull?
One of my friends mixed monster and redbull, but i dont trust them, is it safe?
I’m unsure if it is safe, one of my friends said something but i can’t remember what.
Not particularly dangerous, since they have the same set of active ingredients (caffeine, taurine, ginseng, etc.). It’s like drinking an extra Monster’s worth of Red Bull or the reverse.
What you need to watch out for is mixing different drugs, because having two different drugs in your system can have dangerous effects. For example, mixing Red Bull (stimulant: caffeine) and vodka (sedative-hypnotic: alcohol) is a bad idea; you end up wide awake and drunk at the same time, and much more likely to hurt someone. It’s also a bad idea to mix Xanax (sedative-hypnotic: benzodiazepine) and wine (sedative-hypnotic: alcohol) – you could become so relaxed you quit breathing and die, like Jimi Hendrix. Mixing coffee (stimulant: caffeine) and an asthma inhaler (stimulant: albuterol) turns me into a twitchy, unfocused mess. Mixing matcha tea (stimulant: caffeine) and Lexapro (antidepressant: SSRI) made me feel acutely ill, and pharmacists don’t even mention that interaction.
In summary, before mixing drugs, do your homework. Don’t mix anything with a sedative. Don’t mix anything a pharmacist says is a bad idea. Sometimes mixing drugs is a bad idea even if a pharmacist says it’s okay. Be careful.
Any tips on sexual side effects and Anti-Depressants???
Im on very low doses of Celexa and Xanax. I have a more difficult time achieving orgasm during sex and even while masturbating. Sometimes it just doesnt happen no matter how hard I try. My sex drive is also slightly lower than normal. Overall the benefits of the meds outweight the side effects. But the sexual issues are annoying.
Any tips to offset my side effects?
I gave the thumbs up for the lady who said ask for welbutrin because its one of few anti-depresants on the market right now that hasn’t been directly linked to retarded ejaculation.
The problem is that you’re probably taking the xannax (which is real hard core stuff) for anxiety. You’re probably sensitive to stimulants. I mean sure have a couple cups of coffee and all is good. But welbutrin MAY increase your chances of having anxiety or panic attacks.
It also depends on how long you’ve been on the medicine. If you’ve only been on for a month or so give it three more. If by then these side affects have not gone away or gotten worse, tell your doctor and he may be able to tapper you off the celexa (thats what’s causing your problem) and put you on a different medicine.
Other than that you should consider therapy to along with the drugs. The drugs only do part of the job. Ideally you should be getting therapy so that you don’t need the drugs. And by the way you can take xannax As needed. You don’t have to take it everyday or even more than once a day if you’re symptoms are down. On the otherhand you should follow your doctors instructions over mine and if he wants you take xannax everyday, then that is what you should do. But its one hell of a drug habbit to kick if you get hooked. Some even say its worse than heroine.
Whats the best way to get better sleep at night if you have insomnia?
I am 19 years old and I can’t seem to fall asleep at night. My parents said I had this problem since I was a baby. I try to go to bet at like 11:00 but I can’t fall asleep until like 3 or 4 in the morning. Could this be insomnia?
Sorry I didn’t realize I had a typo.
Are you tired? Do you have a sleep routine? when you fall asleep at 3 or 4, what time do you wake up? do you feel rested? are you in school? can you change your classes to different times? I keep my room, quiet, dark with blackout shades, cool, comfortable sheets. sometimes I fall asleep w TV on, but learned to use sleep timer. Have you tried Benadryl, 25mg? Do you drink a lot of bev w caffiene? Mtn Dew, or energy drinks? or coffee/espresso? Do you exercise? there are sleep meds, Ambien CR, Restoril, Xanax, even Unisom otc, Do you drink alcohol before going to sleep. sometimes this has an opposite effect. Talk with doc about your situation and hopefully you can get some rest.
What are the best alternatives to Xanax?
I know they say St Johns wort is good for depression, but what about anxiety and panic? I’m a 40yr old woman, really not into addicitive drugs-even when they are legal.

How much does caffeine withdraw affect someone with Generalized Anxiety?
I have been on Prozac, 20mg, for almost three years and my anxieties have been good thus far. For the past 5 1/2 months I have been taking Lipo 6, a fat burner with a lot of caffeine in it. I have been fine with my anxieties until I recently got off my Lipo 6 pills, about a week ago. I am wondering if that can have anything to do with my reoccurring anxieties?
I dont know. Caffeine withdraw makes me exquisitely shaky, and exquisitely aware, and I have anxiety for sure.
The bottom line is, if you are addicted, withdraw within the span of withdraw does not ‘help’ you. Later, sure, at times, but hey, Caffeine is chancy science for me — I use exact mathematics, 18oz every two hours, and still, its a 50% I will wind up feeling like shit, too aware but unfocused, instead of immensely central — ‘central’, by which I mean, ‘better than you’.
One day I spent 12 hours without my poison and in a book store experienced a complete physical enlightenment — it seems that caffeine can restrict your awareness of you body too much, so you cannot control it — so in this book store I experienced what anything but toxic doses of caffeine cannot allow (and that only half the time), this something akin to ecstasy, EXCEPT I was aware of how expressionate my arms are!
Anyway, when I have attempted to recreate this experiment (12 coffee-less hours) it has been abscess, so I know this wonderment was completely reliant on environment and its heady hype.
Im not sure if this helps you except: dont quit the caffeine unless you live in a constantly variating and exhilarating environment. Because Ive taken Xanax before, and I felt how normal people act, so I know I have Anxiety in general too, so what goes for me, goes for you.
How long does xanax take to kick in?
I took a g3722 xanax about 20 minutes ago, i also ate a light meal 1 1/2 hours ago and had 2 cups of coffee earlier.. How long does it take to kick in? What do you feel? I take it for anxiety
Since the cofffee/meal should be delaying it when do you think I’ll feel the full effect? I already feel a little lazier all of a sudden and being a little clumsy Lol
My guess is the two cups of coffee may be delaying the full effect of the Xanax. It usually only takes about fifteen or twenty minutes. It is a pretty potent medication.
Anxiety: How can I control it naturally?
I have been on xanax for several years alternating between ativan and klonopin. I have been off them for 6 months. I am doing great. However, today I had pretty bad anxiety and it took a couple hours to alleviate. It wasn’t a full blown panic attack but close.
I have tried mediating, it doesnt work. Is there anything I can do that can relieve the chest pounding and dizziness without going back on the drugs?
Ughhh, I was on Lexapro for 4 months and I felt like such a zombie, not to crack on the pharms. Meditating is something that really takes time to master and is more of a preventive measure than an quick solution.
Abdominal breathing is a great way to stabilize the amounts of oxygen and CO2 in your blood and reduce your heart rate. If you’ve never tried it , put one hand on your stomach and one hand on your chest. Breathe in using your stomach muscles and diaphragm to make the hand on your stomach move and not the one on your chest. It’s not just deep breathing, it’s a more effective way to normalize the amount of oxygen in the blood and get you back to normal quicker.
I also just like to visualize…a lot of my anxiety strikes when I am away from home and way out of my comfort zone…so I just go home in my mind and make coffee or do laundry. If I just think about getting the filter, a cup for the water, scooping the coffee-I dunno, usually I get less and less aware that I am freaking out and realllly in the mood for coffee.
And if all else fails we’ve always got our paper bags, don’t we?
Good luck, I don’t know if I will ever get over anxiety but each time I have a panic attack and get over it I am that much more confident that I can defeat the next one.
What can someone do to feel drunk without drinking or doing anything illegal?
No alcohol, cocaine, weed, crack, vicodin, xanax, any kind of DXM etc…
drink coffee or have chocolate or something like that…… i have acted drunk before and i was like “woah, why am i acting drunk?!?! i dont even drink?!?!??!”
Will xanax and ambien help me sleep after drinking a lot of coffee?
i had too much caffeine too late and now I can’t sleep. If i take Xanax and ambien together will i be able to sleep or will the caffeine prevent me from sleeping?
That should help u sleep. The only way the caffeine will override the xanax and ambien is if u get up and become active and not laying down relaxing. Since its going to take about 20 minutes or so for meds to kick in, u need to do something that will help to relax u like maybe reading, listening to some soft music or some sounds of nature (like rain, thunder, forest, etc.), u could even take a nice warm bubble bath and/or drink some hot chocolate or coco. Whatever relaxes u! Hope this helps and u get some sleep
If I become depressed after eating a Happy Meal, can I get a refund?
The toy was a Xanax chewable in the shape of Ronald Mcdonald crying.
Only if you spilled the child-sized hot coffee on you while driving a motorcycle uphill in the snow in the dark with a blinking headlight aimed into the trees.

Why do I wake up in the mornings nervous and shaking ?
I stay like this all day until night and then it leaves. I feel like I am going to go out of my mind. All I can do is pace the floors. The doctor has me on lexapro 20 mg and xanax XR 1mg. It seems to help a little bit but nothing completely gets rid of them until night. Does anyone have any ideas. I seem to have the Drs. stumped.
because you haven’t had your cig and cup of coffee.
Will I have a bad hangover in the morn for taking 3mg (throughout the night) of xanax?
I’m worried I’ve over did my does of xanax– I have taken around 3mg throughout the night for the last two nights? I have have to be on my toes for work tomorrow (sharp) I weigh 186lbs..so im Im a big guy. Just worried I over did it and will suffer at work withcloudy head, Please help me out if you know what I can do to avoid a xanax hangover.
For starters, whatever your prescribed dose is is what you should stick to, benzos arent drugs that you should just go messing around with re the dosage.. benzos/xanax are essentially CNS depressants and youll just have to wait until it wears off and not do the same thing again.. as for tomorrow morning im afraid you probably wont be too sharp! coffee might help! ive heard taking the dose at separate intervals can help but id check with ur doc first
My thoughts are just like Angela’s above. Very same experience. I see you keep in mind your intake of caffeine which is excellent. Too few know how powerful of a compound it really is… especially if one is prone to be anxious. Also, pharmacists are very very knowledgeable and love to help. They know a lot about chemical compounds and would know your answer whereas a doc can just speculate…best
My brother is withdrawing from Xanax. Are there any home remedies that help with the withdrawal process?
He is having a hard time with anxiety & depression & panic attack.
Here are some good ideas:
1. Do something that gets your heart rate up a bit like, walking, running, biking, and swimming.
2. Eat Whole, Organic foods like: Broccoli, Cabbage, Organic Brown Rice, Beans, Spinach, Sweet Potato, Apples, and other fruits and vegetables in their Natural State.
3. Avoid eating corn, white bread, white rice, white potatoes, candy, sodas, chips, and anything else that you already know you shouldn’t be eating.
4. Drink clean water as your beverage of choice. Avoid Fruit drinks and fruit juices (unless YOU juice them yourself)
5. Stop smoking, drinking beer & wine, and drinking coffee.
6. Get 8 hours of sleep each night.
7. Hang out with people who want to be healthy.
8. Avoid anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup.
9. Look into taking a multi-vitamin.
Tone up the muscles:
1. Join a gym and get a trainer.
2. If you’re short on cash, start a light stretching & yoga regimen.
3. Do push-ups, and light dumbbell curls for the upper body.
4. As I said above, walk, run, swim, and or bike
5. Take an aerobics class, a yoga class, or some other fitness class.
6. Join the local YMCA.
7. Buy or borrow this book by Bill Pearl called GETTING STRONGER.
In the book, he describes everything you need for a great fitness plan.
8. Crunches & Curl ups for the abs.
1. Get a friend to talk to each day about your feelings.
2. If you have some money or insurance, get a counselor to talk to.
3. Learn how to meditate.
4. Join a support group for the issue you’re dealing with.
5. Ask your Higher Self (or God) for guidance.
6. Start keeping a diary or journal about your feelings & thoughts.
7. Write a ‘gratitude’ list every night.
8. Do something that makes you happy each day like: listen to your favorite music, draw, paint, write, or anything creative.
9. Do something for someone else who needs help.
10. If the above suggestions don’t improve your mental health, talk with your therapist about the possibility of taking some medication.
11. Check out the book FEELING GOOD by David Burns.
Take care of yourself
Does tobacco have any effect on tinnitus?
I’ve ALWAYS had ringing in my ears, as far back as I could remember. Over the years it got a bit louder and with a couple more tones, but was never overbearing unless I drank coffee or something.
Today I smoked a cigarette (something that is extremely rare for me) and suddenly it was…silent. I could still hear everything else, but the ringing was gone, completely. Now, 30 minutes later it’s still only about 1/10 the normal intensity. Is this normal?
Check your smoking as it not only raises your blood pressure but also provides enough contamination to your already troubled ear/ears increasing the chances of further infections.
As for as your chronic tinnitus goes, as you have asked in the alternative therapies section, here are a few tips..
Many conventional medications achieve only limited success in tinnitus relief, and usually their bothersome side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation often discourage use.
Valium, Xanax and Klonopin are benzodiazepine drugs that many doctors prescribe for tinnitus. They are addicting to varying degrees and cannot be used continuously for a long period of time. They are helpful in reducing tinnitus symptoms and aid in sleeping. Valium is the most addicting of these and is not used often for this reason. Xanax is very popular and is prescribed often for tinnitus. However, the ATA report on medications that cause tinnitus lists Xanax as causing it in 6.6% of cases.
Natural and holistic tinnitus remedies can be effective in assisting with the relief of symptoms, as well as addressing the individual’s overall health and well-being.
Herbal and homeopathic remedies are gentle, yet effective – without the harmful side effects of conventional medicine. Tinnitus herbal remedies can be used to support all body systems involved in helping the ear to perform its tasks of clear hearing and balance, as well as the circulatory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.
Some of the most common herbs used are
•Ginkgo Biloba is excellent for a number of cerebral and circulatory disorders. It is probably the most widely-used herb for tinnitus and many sufferers swear by this natural ingredient.
•Rosemary dilates and strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent circulation tonic. Rosemary is particularly useful for tinnitus that is caused or worsened by high blood pressure and other circulatory conditions.
•Avena Sativa is effective in reducing high cholesterol levels which can contribute to circulatory problems which cause tinnitus.
•Wild Hyssop s also useful in reducing pain and inflammation.
•Salicylic Ac. is indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin.
Hope all this helps
Is this a normal side effect of Xanax?
I was put on Xanax twice a day by my doctor. I stopped taking it because I was dead tired during the day. I took one last night and feel asleep an hour after taking the pill. Today, though, I have been dead tired. I can barely function. I want to go home and sleep. Is this normal to feel this way after taking the pill last night?
xanax will cause drowsiness. it is a benzodiazepine, and a strong one at that. it has sedative hypnotic properties and will cause drowsiness. In fact, it acts on the same general receptors in the brain as alcohol. for this it shares many of the same characteristics as alcohol: anxiolytic properties, sedation, psychomotor retardation, amnesia, slurring of speech. what you are experiencing is the xanax “hangover”. its antianxiety properties are gone, but sedation and fogginess are still there. this is quite common. consider using a lower dose and/or drink some coffee the next day. other than that there is no way around the infamous hangover.
How long does panic disorder typically last?
I’ve developed a severe panic disorder (lots of panic attacks and general anxiety) over the past couple months that seems unusual to me. I’m seeking therapy for it and the medication I’ve been put on for it, Xanax, hasn’t been helping me. I’m considering taking an SSRI the doctor recommends but I don’t know if it will help either. Does this stuff typically go away on it’s own or am I just stuck with this?
Hi – for some people panic attacks occur seemingly out of nowhere, and go away as fast. But for others panic disorder is something that they have to deal with for many years or their entire lifetime.
Part of the challenge is that the causes of panic disorder are not completely understood (no mental health condition is actually!). There’s quite a bit of evidence from clinical studies that the condition may result from a genetic imbalance of the the neurotransmitter serotonin. Of all the anxiety disorders, Panic Disorder has been the most extensively studied from a genetic standpoint, and family and twin studies have consistently demonstrated that PD runs in families. Studies have found that an individual is 8 times more likely to develop Panic Disorder if a family member has been diagnosed with it. Other risk factors for Panic Disorder include: alcohol, smoking, or drinking large amounts of coffee or other caffeinated beverages; taking medications known to trigger panic attacks, such as those used to treat asthma or heart problems; having mitral valve prolapse, a heart condition in which one of the valves in the heart does not close as it should; and experiencing an episode of major depression.
Current thinking is that if you are having panic attacks more than a couple times a week, that an antidepressant might be a better treatment strategy than a benzodiazepine sedative like Xanax. A newer SSRI like Lexapro (Escitalopram) seems to work well for a lot of people with panic, and is a relatively “clean” med in terms of side effects compared with other antidepressants.
Good to hear that you are doing therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is generally viewed as the most effective form of psychotherapy for treating panic attacks. CBT has been found to reduce sypmtoms in 70-90% of individuals with Panic Disorder and agoraphobia. CBT involves the use of such techniques as thought-stopping, gradual challenging of irrational behaviors, identifying triggers and separating them from the attacks themselves, systematic desensitization that is focused on the physical sensations of a panic attack, etc.
Hang in there…panic disorder is considered to be one of the most treatable of the anxiety disorders, and you can have every reasonable expectation that your attacks will lessen with time and treatment.
Is it safe to take Xanax with caffeine consumption?
I have been taking half a xanax in the morning and half in the afternoon to help with some anxiety issues. But I’m also a coffee drinker, usually two cups or so a day. I was wondering if there could be any negative effects from having both Xanax and caffeine in my system.
Caffeine is a stimulant and although it won’t hurt to take it with coffee it may be the caffeine causing your anxiety. I would try taking the Xanax with a caffeine free coffee or caffeine free tea and see if the anxiety is still bad as it is taking it with coffee. I take Xanax and Ativan both 2-3 times a day for tremors. I rarely use caffeine at all. So take a little test and see if you cut out caffeine if you still have anxiety or as much anxiety as when you drink coffee. My husband can’t drink caffeine at all, he just starts shaking all over, it can do that to some people so try it without caffeine. Having more anxiety is the only negative effect I can think of.
Are there any energy boosting foods/drinks I can have without getting a panic attack?

Try a can of fruit cocktail, Chunk pineapple, And a apple a day.
can I drink coffee while on xanax?
I take 4mg of xanax a day for an anxiety disorder. I love coffee. Can I drink caffeinated coffee? I’m talking like two to three cups a day? I’ve been doing it for almost a year without noticing any problems, but I just thought about it and wondered. Thank you for your answers.
It may counteract your xanax a bit by drinking caffeine but if you haven’t noticed any dramatic problems why worry about it? Even though it does counteract I found in the past when I took it I needed the coffee or I couldn’t stay awake at work.
